The Puget Sound Energy Foundation will provide grants totaling $400,000 to community-based public charity organizations across PSE’s 16-county working or service areas in Washington State to aid in the response and recovery of the COVID-19 pandemic.

We are seeking to help fund nonprofit organizations that are providing critical community services as well as fund the programs and services received by community members. Focus areas for our COVID-19 Response and Recover Grants include:

  • Funding for programs and/or services to ensure our community members have access to shelter, food and other critical PPE supplies
  • Funding to help keep public charity’s doors open who provide the critical services to community members. Funding for PPE equipment, deep cleaning expenses, etc.
  • Funding for COVID-19 critical needs for local chambers, downtown associations and service clubs as a public charity able to provide an expenditure responsibility or equivalency determination as defined by the IRS may also be considered in order to serve and reopen operations

Grant Awards: $1,000 – $20,000

Applicant qualifications:
  • Applicants must:
    • Be a public charity as designated by the IRS
    • Reside in and serve the public within Puget Sound Energy’s 16 county service and operation area. (Chelan, Columbia, Cowlitz, Douglas, Garfield, Island, King, Kitsap, Kittitas, Klickitat, Lewis, Pierce, Snohomish, Skagit, Thurston, and Whatcom counties)
    • Request programmatic or capital requests
  • Not funded:
    • Individuals, K-12 schools, youth groups, clubs, religious or political organizations
    • General tuition or membership dues made to service clubs, social or fraternal organizations
    • Grants that benefit an individual or specific family or group

Selection determination:

The grant process is competitive. Requests will be evaluated in relation to all proposals received and the availability of resources. Applications received by deadline are evaluated and determined by a committee of representatives and determined by PSE Foundation Board members and Puget Sound Energy employees.

All applicants will be contacted regarding the status of their application once the determination is complete.

Timeline: Open in July

  • First deadline—Aug. 31 with awards in October;
  • Second deadline—Oct. 1 with awards in December;
